Getting Started

How do I get started with my Mex.tl website?
To get started, simply Fill out our Registration Form. Once you have completed this form, your site will be created and you'll be taken to your Mex.tl administration panel. This is where you can manage your website, add content and new features.
Do I have to put my real e-mail address when registering?
Yes, it is very important that you put your e-mail address correctly, otherwise you will not receive a verification e-mail and your account will not be activated. We need to verify that you are a real person with a real e-mail, to avoid spam and abuse.
Is registration free?
Yes, registration is free because Mex.tl is a free system, unless you want to activate one of our premium feature, such as a premium domain name or e-mail accounts.
How many websites can I create in my Mex.tl account?
We have a policy: one website per one e-mail address. We really want our system to be used by people/companies for their own websites, and not by spammers to create multiple websites with one account.

Adding Content

Adding content to Mex.tl website
When you are in Mex.tl Control Panel you can choose what kind of content you want to add to your website. To add a new page or edit existing pages you need to click on Pages link in administration menu. Here you can choose what kind of a page you want to add to your website.


 
You can add Regular Pages or Special Pages (Applications/Widgets) to your website. Regular Pages are simple HTML pages which are edited using our easy-to-use WISWIG editor (just like your word processor) or programmed directly in HTML. Special Pages are pages or tools with special purpose, such as your photo gallery, guestbook, contact page, online store, blog, etc.
Setting/Changing your Home Page
Home page is the first page that a visitor sees when he types your domain name in his browser, (e.g. yoursite.mex.tl). When you register with Mex.tl, your home page is automatically created. You can edit it in your Mex.tl Control Panel in Pages.

You can change your home page for another page using Home Page Widget. Any page of your website can be set as a home page, for example your photo gallery, contact page, blog, video gallery, online store, chat page, etc.

What content is prohibited on Mex.tl?
We prohibit content and activity that: may constitute or contribute to a crime; is illegal, hateful, invasive of personal privacy, humiliating to other people; infringes or violates someone else's rights; makes automated use of the system, such as using scripts, bots, spiders or scrapers, to send messages, log into accounts, or collect information; facilitates or encourages any violation of Terms and Conditions. If you violate these basic rules, your account may be suspended.
How much space can I use for my website?
You are given 50 Megs of space fore free. If you need more, you can increase your space.

Choosing, Changing and Editing your Template

How do I pick a new template?

When you sign up, you pick one template that you like. It becomes your design. You can always change or edit this template.

How do I change or edit the theme/design of my Mex.tl website?
To change or edit your template click on Design in administration menu. Here you are given several options to change or edit your template.
Selecting a Template
You can simply Pick a Template from our library of over 300 templates. You can change your design as many times as you want. All the content will be preserved and readjusted to the new selected design.
Creating a new template or modifying the existing one
You can Create Your Own Template using our easy-to-use web design editor. After you save the changes your website will be adjusted to your new design immediatly.
Can I download my template?
You can export (download) or import (upload) your template if you want. This is a very useful feature, since you can backup your templates and later restore them if needed.

Domain Names



What is a domain name?
Your domain is the address where people find your website online. You can choose to publish your website to a free sub-domain of mex.tl (e.g. name.mex.tl ), Register a new domain, or Set up a domain you already own.
How to register a new domain name with Mex.tl?
To purchase a domain through Mex.tl log into your administration panel, and fill out the domain registration form. When a new domain is purchased and registered through Mex.tl, it can take anywhere between 24-48 hours for it to be fully active.



How to connect a domain I already own with Mex.tl site?
If you already own a domain name, you can use it with your Mex.tl site. Here is what you need to do:

1. Identify Your Domain Registrar

Your domain registrar is the company through which you purchased your domain name (e.g. yourname.com). This may be your previous webhost, or it may be a completely separate company.

2. Register your existing domain with Mex.tl

You will need to add your domain to Mex.tl system and create an order.



3. Change the Nameservers (NS) to Mex.tl

Please ask your domain registrar to change the nameservers (NS) to Mex.tl (or do so yourself if you're familiar with making changes to your domain's DNS). Change the NS entries for your domain to:

PIMARY DNS:

Name: ns1.dnsmex.net

SECONDARY DNS:
IP: 50.22.50.243
Name: ns2.dnsmex.net

Email Accounts

Can I have my own email account with my Mex.tl website?
Yes. If you have a premium domain name, (e.g. yourcompany.com or yourcompany.com.mx, NOT yourcompany.mex.tl) you can have your own e-mail accounts, (e.g. yourname@yourcompany.com). If you do not have a premium domain name, you have to upgrade your domain name first.
What is Email Forwarding
If you want to keep using your Hotmail or Gmail (or any other online email provider) email, but still want a branded address for customers (e.g. yourname@yourdomain.com) you can use a Mex.tl Email Forwarder, instead of creating a real email account.
What's the difference between email accounts and forwarders?
The main difference is that you cannot send email from a forwarding address - you will need another (real) email address in order to send email.

Online Store

Can I have an Online Store with my Mex.tl website?
Mex.tl provides you with everything you need to sell your products online.
How to activate an online store with Mex.tl?
To activate your Mex.tl online store log into your administration panel, click on Pages link in administration menu, scroll down to find "Online Store" application and enable it by clicking on [Enable] link. Your store is activeted! Now you can edit the settings for your store and add products.

Blogging

Can I have a Blog with my Mex.tl website?
Mex.tl provides you with everything you need to blog online.
How to activate a blog with Mex.tl?
To activate your Mex.tl blog log into your administration panel, click on Pages link in administration menu, scroll down to find "Blog" application and enable it by clicking on [Enable] link. Your blog is activeted! Now you can add new posts to your blog.

Members and Online Chat

Members of your Mex.tl website
You can have and manage members on your Mex.tl website. This is a great feature for those who want to restrict access to some sections of their websites and also for those who want to make their website a bit more social.

You can allow or disallow your members to comment on your pages and participate in online chat. Each member will have their own profile page right on your website.
Online Chat App for your Mex.tl website
You can Enable an Online Chat on your Mex.tl website with just a few clicks. This application is created using Node.js technology which allows for instant exchange of messages between the users. Your members will automatically be able to chat using this application. They can post texts, photos and videos and invite friends.

How to activate a video gallery app on Mex.tl?
To activate your Mex.tl photo galleries log into your administration panel, click on Pages link in administration menu, scroll down to find "Video gallery" application and enable it by clicking on [Enable] link. Your video gallery is activeted! We do not allow uploading photos directly to our servers. You will have to upload them through YouTube.com and then using our video gallery app display in your Mex.tl gallery.
